Baby Sign Language...anyone use it?
Hi all,

I've been using sign language with my now 1yr old since she was about 3mths. We do the basics like - milk, eat, water, bath, tired and today she started signing 'more' to me :o) it's really helped our communication with her, even my fiance who thought i was a bit wakky at the start raves about how well it's worked with her. She signs all these back to us and it takes the guess work out of trying to figure out what she wants. We're full hearing but use it as a communication tool.

I was interested to see if anyone else uses sign with their little one and what you're experiences are.

I used it with my grandson when he was little with some success. It was helpful because he was a little late in starting to talk.  But once he started talking (hasn't stopped to draw breath yet!) he totally lost interest in signing.  But thanks for the reminder - I now have a baby grand daughter to try it with.

yes with grandbaby along with your baby can read dvd's but same as above once started talking stopped with signing.
It was very helpful for communicating before talking.

my  mum myself and my sister and other family members  are learning at the moment for my sisters daughter who has arthrogryposis, she wears hearing aids, wears glasses and has a lot of other problems due to the arthrogryposis.
my niece will be 2 in january and the only word she speaks (that we can understand)is cat, mind you everything is a cat(dogs, birds etc)
my mum and sister did a 1 day course to learn the signing but im just learning from them and some info sheets from the course,so i am way behind but slowly getting there.
i dont think my niece is overly interested at the moment but we are all persisting with it as she will probably need it as she gets older

Fingers crossed Georgiegirl. Albeit a different situation, it took a while for Brooke to start picking up on the signs but now she picks up faster than I can keep up. Our latest sign is 'more', now she wants 'more' of everything!!!
