I have seen people reading them on the trains... I want one!! I would not yet pay more than 100-200 dollars for one, and I would hope it has an organic book feel, rather than an lcd screen feel

My daughter was looking for one a few months ago but ended up buying an Asus netbook which was on special for about $50 more (around $230). That way she can read her books (it does everything an ebook reader does) and as a bonus has her own computer to check emails and do some browsing, etc. She hasn't had any problems with it and always has her nose stuck in it reading her books.

My daughter and SIL both have kindles, they are in constant use. SIL works away and it is great for him to have reading available where ever he is on that little thing.

I bought a kindle and case with reading  light  (amazon) on Monday night, the case arrived yesterday, less than 3 days since I ordered! Tracking tells me the kindle has been scanned out at LA airport and should be checked in at Brisbane today and be here Monday. Woot Woot!

Meantime I have put at least 30 books on my wishlist while I wait I have also bought 2 and started reading on my ipod touch, call me impatient. LOL Both books were under $10. You can have up to 6 devices on your account so I will download to my new kindle also when it arrives.

Kindle is made specifically for reading nothing else, it has e-ink so your eyes don't get strained unlike a computer backlit screen. There's a big difference.

The one I bought  was Kindle3  WIFI only and $139, cheaper than 3G and WIFI @ $189 I will fill it will reading and keep it updated with books to go    IMO no need to have 3G anyway unless you don't have download facilities like back packers.

There's a great video on kindle buy page with Jeff Basos, Amazon chief  giving the new kindle spheal if you want to check it out. (down the bottom somewhere)

I have the Kindle app on my netbook (its a free download).  There are some negatives with Kindle especially if you buy for example a recipe book - you can't share a recipe, copy & paste or print.  Other than that the app works well.  Wanted to try it before I buy it.

I do have a MiGear eBook Reader which comes loaded with books and I have added a lot of my PDF files, pictures and music to it.  Its a lot easier on the eyes than reading them on a computer screen.  There are heaps of books available for free down load out there.  It cost under $100.  Battery lasts for 8hrs then you have to recharge through a USB port.  2gb internal memory also Supports a Micro SD Card up to 16gb. 7" colour screen and you can change the background colour etc for reading your book.

I still prefer to read a paper book but sometimes its just not convenient to carry one around.

Ebooks are designed for everyday reading, there will always be a place for text and reference books as hard copy.

A lot of books are now only being published as ebooks including textbooks, reference books and cookbooks.  Makes it impossible to have a hard copy or share.  At least with a hard copy book you can photocopy/scan pages, which is helpful for quick revision or sharing a recipe.

I have a Kindle -wifi &3G was the only option when I got it,BeBook Mini and an Iriver Story.
They are all eink so all have a battery life of weeks rather than hours.
The Bebook and Story take an SD card as well as having internal memory so easy to just load from your computer onto the card,I haven't used the internal memory at all.

It will depend on what types of books you want to use it for.For technical type pdf's with diagrams etc none of the current ereaders will do the job except maybe the ipad. If it is for novels then almost any will do what you want.

For straight out ease of use I'd have to say the Kindle is the best. Mine has also paid for itself in free books that Amazon does for limited time offers. It reads unsecured pdf, prc, mobi as well as the kindle format. Most places will have at least one of those formats available if you shop somewhere other than Amazon. You can also email an ebook to your kindle account and it gets converted to the kindle format and you can download it through wi-fi to your kindle.

The Bebook Mini is identical to the Eco Reader just smaller. The EcoReader is around $189 I think. It will read nearly all formats and has Adobe Digital Editions for secure epubs/pdfs. It's not as nice to hold as the Kindle and Story but pretty easy to use.

After using an ereader I have to say I think they are great.Easy to carry/take out.No more losing a bookmark and your place lol.  I like them soo much that I by the ebook before the paperback now and will eventually replace my paperbacks with ebooks too.

I did just pick up a cheap Laser brand ($99)which is backlit but haven't spent much time with it. Just enough to know it isn't as easy to use as any of the othes. I only got it so I could read without having to have the light on though so it does that. It also does music, videos etc the same as the MiGear.
