Any advice
Hello everyone!

I have just opened up my shop Sarahs cosmetics. I am new and so far have not had a sale! I'm not sure if I am doing anything wrong or not doing something I should or maybe the items I am selling are not popular. Anyway any thoughts/ideas would be great! Hope everyone is enjoying the long weekend! Thanks, Sarah

Sorry lipsticks are not my thing no offense just not that way inclined

But you only have 9 items listed you need to get up around 100 listings and post in the sellers pick of the day forum every day give it time then and something will happen.

Also purchase a few things yourself and get some feedback to your credit this helps and some of the sellers you buy from will turn out to be buyers in return.

Hi and Welcome
You need a lot more items not just lipsticks.

Hi and  welcome

Everyone will tell you, you need more listings to sell anything here, but I don't take any notice of them.  I have not had a sale on here since December and only have a few items listed as I can't afford to list items and have them sit here for months. Depending on what you sell and what the items cost having 100 or more items sitting here and not selling is not worthwhile. Seller that brag they have a lot of sales here usually sell items under $10, but anything above that (all my items are above that, thats why they don't sell).

I have no problem on "the bay" and I have less then 50 items listed there and have never had any more in the 7 years I have been selling there.

I wish you luck but it is a very slow time at the moment and maybe try a couple of selling venues, not just here.

Hi and welcome to Quicksales.

Firstly every listing i looked at had a spelling mistake of some kind- easy to do i know but that needs fixing.

You dont have photos of all your listings, People need to be able to see what they are buying.

3 days for payment? Thats a short time for payment.  I would extend to at least 5 or 7 days (personally)  Have more variety.

Use Spotd you can use this twice in a 24 hour period

Good luck

Happy Selling :-)

Hi Sarah and welcome to qs

I buy lippy and lots of it , but I would have no idea what colour I am getting from your listings when you have 3 lipsticks in the image but the auction is for one of them.

Unfortunately the actual websites for the brands change their colour name often so you can't research the colour successfully.

If you have the actual item , you need to post a photo of the item. Obviously you don't want to break any seals so see if you can get the colour image of the web and use that as well.

Stock photo's are handy when it comes to cosmetics but it does leave a few questions open to whether you actually have the items etc. Maybe use both images as you can insert photo's into the descriptions as well.

This is not eBay , qs recommendation for payment terms are 7 days , although sellers can set their own Terms Of Sale (TOS) your much better off having a longer then 3 day payment term.

Welcome to quicksales :)

Your prices are good especially as they have free postage - but make sure your items are still protected from rough AP treatment and not just shoved in an envelope ;)

The spelling mistake in the titles could make your item hard to find if someone was doing a specific search though - VvLOUM

You probably could have done without a Vshop until you had more items listed, that would have saved you a few dollars each month til you were established.

Good luck with your selling, it does require patience at first

Change your listings categories as well for the 2 lipsticks that are the same and are in the same category. You can only list up to 3  of the same items in 3 different categories etc.

Hello Sarah...get a BLUE name....as suggested try to get up to the 100 mark (it seems to be the magic number)

If you don't have 100 pieces of make-up look around your house and know you can add, unwanted gifts, good quality second hand clothes, shoes and goods

Good luck with your sales here...I am sure you will do really well

Not sure why you'd need a shop for 9 listings, unless you intend to list heaps more cosmetics etc.

Also your profitability would be down the gurgler straight away with Store fees and Free postage, unless you sell a lot of stock to justify the expense.

As a buyer I really like L'Oreal/Maybelline, but would want to see a lot more different items as I would feel very mean to just buy a single lipstick @ $ 7.00 with Free postage and be done buying, especially if the lipsticks retail @ $ 24.95.

Anyway, I hope for your sake you're going to list heaps more and get some decent sales without giving all your profit margin away.

Good luck

WELCOME TO QUICKSALES Sarah!
My number 1 tip would be to change your listings to 3 days as they are BIN (buy it now) and then your items will come to the top of the list every 3 days instead of every 14 days. In the lifetime of your listing the items will come to the top 20 times as opposed to 4 times. Use 14 days for auction items.
2. Although Free post is inviting I would try some of the higher priced lipsticks with a postage charge so you are not paying extra fees on the sale price when they sell..just my opinion...maybe you could mix it up a bit.
eg. the sale price on something priced at $10 is 40c whereas on something priced at $5.60 but with $4.40 post is only 25c sale fee.
3.Yes fix the spelling  (Volume & Price are two I saw ) as the heading in particular will affect searches for items.
4. Shades are important to be able to see as has been said.
5.Yes advertise on SPOTD ( sellers pick of the day) under the community section
6. Also check "wanted" regularly as sometimes people are looking for ideas of what to buy for a gift and you can post your items as a response if you keep an eye out.
7. I also agree that you need more listings and more variety to gain attention as sometimes peeple set out to buy one thing and see something else they like in your listings...I know I do!
All the best with your selling.

Hi Sarah.  I agree with most that you should edit your spelling mistakes (have been guilty of this myself and know how easy it is to overlook) and photos are a must for any item being sold.  I hope you plan to list more as good quality lowcost cosmetics are not that easy to come by lol.

G'day to you Sarah,

I love what you have to list......
May I say ....just pay attention to detail when listing....re spelling, pics, etc. means a lot when your trying to promote an item.

I'm no expert mate but you have items that would sell really well here....so just do your best to promote your items.

Go for it and good luck to you......cheers....Lily

Thank you so much for your replies!

I am very embarassed about the spelling errors- I hate bad spelling! I had a bit of trouble with the express lister and was up quite late, I will be sure to go over them and correct them.

I will be adding new items weekly so I thought a shop would be a good idea. I would like to list more items now but I have some other items on another site and have put aside these ones just for here.

With regards to postage, I send the lipstick in the Australia Post padded envelope and all eyeliners/lip liners are wrapped x3 in bubble wrap and sent in a standard envelope. If anything is received damaged of course I would replace/refund it.

All the items I have listed I have with me. Unfortunately, the photos that I have are the only professional ones I could get my hands on. The eyeliners/lip liners came out all blury on my camera. But I think I will just open up one of each of the lipsticks and take some photos (don't worry I will not sell those ones!). Looks like I will be busy with the camera- wish me luck!

Thanks again to you all! This site seems to be very community orientated which I am really enjoying!

Thank you, and I wish you all the very best with your own business' here.

Sarah

Hi Sarah,

You might try answering any queries that potential customers have.
I don't care much about how many items you have, and the spelling - as long as the words in the description are true and that I can understend them.   I really hate it though, when sellers ignore questions.
