Avast now have an Office in Australia with a Toll Free 1800 number you can contact them on, 24/7 if there are any problems.

I have been using the Free version of Avast for yonks, without any problems.

Avira.  I used AVG for years until V9, which sent my computer haywire.  Is there a better version available now?

Microsoft Security Essentials

Excellent , free and doesn't hog resources or conflict with other programs , you do need a genuine copy of Windows.

Do a full scan after installation.

I use Microsoft Security Essentials too - have used AVG - but couldn't get on with it - did strange things to the computer.

I have just down loaded and installed Microsoft Security Essentials last weekend so far its running great and it doesn't slow the computer down as it scans the files, it  has already saved me going to a "bad" site, previously I was using Avast prior to that AVG.

Before installing Microsoft Security Essentials  I uninstalled Avast then did a computer seach in C drive of all files named Avast  deleted them and did the install. So far I like it. I have Win XP SP3.

well silly me , I should know better but at least I know MSE is on the ball.

clicked on a Yahoo News! story on Facebook ( about the Duggar families baby)  and then on one of the images and WSE popped up with a warning

Exploit:Win32/MS04028jpeg!

A severe Alert.

Removed , but that'll teach me lol

thriftylink if you can get all your windows updates ok, I personally recommend "Microsoft Security Essentials" and it's continual so hopefully this time next year when I usually have had to update my free antivirus program I won't have to ...fingers crossed.
I just found it by Googling free antiviruses.

issabella10 I did a google of that exploit page and it came up with what it's about on this page

 http://www.microsoft.com/security/portal/Threat/Encyclopedia/Entry.aspx?Name=Exploit:Win32/MS04028!jpeg

if you are bored lol... just joking. So yeah some things are devious out there.
Cheers

Yeah that one threw me as it's not often you find something encoded in a jpeg , so advise is folks =

stay away from the Yahoo News application on Facebook, it's carp . Even if you don't subscribe to it , don't be tempted to click on the images . Facebook has been notified so will see what happens.
