ADMIN: Please introduce BLOCK OVERSEAS BUYER OPTION
I have my settings set at Post National only yet today had an overseas buyer purchase something and pay through Paypal.  I now have to refund and explain to the buyer.  It's a dissapointment to them as well i'm sure.

The same happens to me sometimes.
I think one needs to really word the checkout info making sure the postage you quote is domestic postage only.
I do this on all sites I sell from, but still get the odd buyer who has not read the information. I then suggest they pay the extra postage
by sending it to my paypal address as a seperate payment, most take up the offer when it is all explained to them.
Then again much depends on what one is selling, as overseas postage is expensive.

Perhaps we should put a note on our listings - something like this.
"Buyers outside Australia please contact me for an accurate postage/shipping quote"
What do you think? I know that some still won't see it, but it might catch some before they go too far with a purchase.

Why not post overseas for this item?  Something relatively small like that wouldn't cost a fortune.

I don't mind overseas buyers. And a lot are prepared to pay a hefty price for postage without query too.

The two threads going on this (and I do get that you all don't want to sell overseas and don't mean to sound harsh) I'm thinking might make any OS buyers who read them think that the sellers here don't want their business. That's not the case. I know plenty of sellers here who will happily send overseas.

But...........as they always pay Paypal from my experience, it's quite easy to email and say sorry, I don't send overseas, then refund their cash. It's not like anyone is being inundated with them I'm guessing? Like a dozen times a day having to refund?

I used to partially refund heaps daily as Ebay would auto calc the combined postage for me. I loved ones who paid by Paypal as it was so easy to go in and give them back their over payment. I also would refund entire payments if they were undercharged for postage and then issue another invoice by Paypal.

I don't see how they can put a block in  , they can still manage to join as members then as a seller and start listing even if it's under a fake location so there's just nothing in the system here that stops overseas members joining and buying  , let alone having to apply the system in such a way that Sellers that do accept overseas buyers don't have any issues with sudden blocks etc.

So it falls onto the seller to put a few things in place

1. state in the Postage section that you post within Australia only
2. select National/Statewide ( although you'll still get the odd person thinking that National is worldwide )
3. REMOVE your PayPal addy from your preferences and also untick >>>( give my buyers my Bank Details)

benefits of the above are - you can monitor your buyers and send out combined postage Invoices should they make multiple purchases , and you will avoid having overseas buyers being able to pay you when they go through Check-out .
You send the Invoice with the payment details.

Until then it will happen again and let's face it Admin probably have better things to do when buyers have an option to do the above.

You can do all that and yet they still buy from you........

I am prepared to take sales from anywhere - and the postage on most is not very much at all.

I have sent to South Africa recently and Singapore this week.

I definitely do not want to remove my details for paypal and bank deposit - even though that would help some sellers who didn't want to.

It shouldn't take that to let buyers know that they cannot buy.

A lot of buyers are in, buy, out and gone again.

With no sales at all happening here - I will take any I can get.

I've been amazed at what people are prepared to pay to have stuff sent overseas. If it's expensive I always give them the option to cancel as in $40 post for a book or pattern that's not terribly rare. But rarely do they cancel.

I understand why some might not want to sell overseas but I do agree fully with what Jules says, sales are hard enough to get so it's wise to grab any that come your way if you can.

Guys i had a response from admin and apparently they can't put a buyer block for overseas in place successfully due to IP addresses.  Some people may access the site from work where a server is based overseas.

As for my buyer apparently it is a rare item that they have been trying to find for some time and have advised that they are prepared to pay post even if its a lot.

There are a few reasons why some sellers cannot post overseas and it is not due to not wanting sales.
Overseas postage requires a trip into the post office to fill out lengthy forms - if you work full time and do all your posting with pre-paid satchels, dropping items in the street box etc then this is impossible.
There is also the Paypal difficulties should an item not get there.

Codswallop. Attending the PO is nothing more than your own personal choice... and far from a necessity.

There is also the Paypal difficulties should an item not get there.

PayPal is NOT difficult at all... in fact, contrary to your misleading statement, it is extremely simple.

Hi there FC... yes of course you can post Overseas, without going into the post office....and what forms are you talking about.  You would only need these if you were wanting to send large quantities, or insurance

You can get International stamps and a few 'Par Avion' stickers to put on your parcels, or letters

I think the "lengthy" forms are actually the white and green Customs Declarations, where you are required to tick if it's a gift etc, put your name and address, phone number, & ID on.  The post office does have to put the weight on it and also an orange sticker then goes on your parcel to verify your id that you put on the form.   The PO keep the half of the form that is not stuck to the parcel.

I even have to put them on books I send overseas as large letters, as well as all parcels.

Lengthy?  No, but they do have to be lodged over the counter.

Lengthy?  No, but they do have to be lodged over the counter.

Double codswallop. I am so sick of people making up garbage and posting it here as fact... try doing some research before you go around misinforming others.

International articles do NOT require counter lodgement (as has been falsely stated)... unless thay are too large to fit in the red box... and there is no pick up/delivery personnel around to take the item/s off your hands.  Honestly, it's been over 10 years since I last lodged an international article over the counter... and I don't even have an AP delivery service here... so I quite clearly have less mail posting options available to me than are available to the majority of Australians.

The customs dec. can be found online... and the fields can be filled out prior to printing... but hey, if you want to keep creating extra work for yourselves... that's entirely your own personal choice... just stop incorrectly telling others that they MUST copy your inadequate methods, and do as you do.

There are facilities at your disposal which you are quite clearly ignoring and not taking advantage of... I suggest that in the future, you make use of them

Sorry, message deleted, I couldn't restrain myself.

How does the P.O. verify your ID if you put in a box?

After checking at my local p.o. today, biteme is correct. Yes, you can post international parcels and letters straight into the red mail box, HOWEVER, they will never be entered on the A/Post system as having been sent, so are not an ideal way to send items overseas, I'd think.

Then again, I wouldn't want to misinform anyone either.

It must be a wonderful feeling to be right all the time

I truly just post them in the red letter box, with an international stamps and the par avion sticker....but then again, most of my items fit into a letter, between a greeting card....lol

But how do you get the proof of postage for Paypal if you just put it in the box you run the risk of chargebacks then or are there international pre paid regi labels too now so you at least get tracking?  I'm being a bit cautious now because AP arent so willing to pay out anymore so whacking the regi labels on most things i pop in the box.
