Hi thrifylink.  My first born was also like that.  She was extremely colicky and only slept 4 hours a day at most.  She was very sucky so I ended up getting her a dummy (which was something that I swore I would never do).  I used to bath her before a nap and then gave her a massage (which the local clinic nurse taught me to do).  During the day I used to put her to sleep on her stomach and then turn her over when she was well and truly asleep.  I ended up getting a book by Gina Ford (can't remember the name of the book - Contented baby?), and it really helped.   She was 5 by the time she slept through the night!!!  My 3 other kids however were nothing like her, so hang in there - it does get better.

If it's only during the day, why do anything?  My eldest only slept a maximum of 20 minutes at a time - usuallly only 5 or 10 minutes during the day from birth, so I say if it's not affecting her don't worry :)

Contact your doctor or your maternial and child centre, google sleep centres or contact your hospital.
Start getting help now for sleep information, sometimes the waiting times can be quite long.
If the problem gets better while you are on the waiting list you can always cancel.
I ended up at a sleep centre with my middle son and it saved me!
There is a loy of good info on the net as well and on some on the sleep centre web sites.
