Question - posted by suffolk1 at 18-Feb-2009
would any of the belts be suitable for a Toshiba SM 3000 .
The 262 or 238 seem to be the most likely

Answer
Hello. Please check the diameter of the turntable drum. The next size down will be the correct size. We aim for about 5mm smaller, but only certain sizes are made. Because there is a stretch over to the motor pulley, even drum diameter size will work. But if you stretch too much the life is shorter, particularly in hot climates. Also check if the width I have listed looks suitable. It is unlikely that you will buy a genuine belt through Toshiba sources, and don't always trust model to size charts if you see them online, particularly if they are imperial measurements. They usually quote sizes which are half the circumference (the doubled length for an intact belt) which in my opinion is prone to inaccuracy. Thanks for the question.

Hello,
not sure if you are able to help. I have a SILVER SL-300 HIFI turntable. I got it secondhand and the belt was discovered in bits. So, I do not have the correct measurements..just hoping you may know what size i would need and if you have it? I need it asap.
thanks!

Answer
Hi, Bob. If I had a list with TT models and corresponding belt sizes I wouldn't trust it anyway ! ..... You need to measure the DIAMETER of the turntable drum that the belt goes around. IGNORE the distance to the motor pulley, the belt is chosen to be a neat fit on the turntable drum and then s-t-r-e-t-c-h-e-d out to hook over the motor pulley. That gives a suitable operating tension. Then look at the belt I have listed which is around 5mm smaller, diameter-wise, and check whether the width I have available is suitable. If your motor pulley has two journals of different diameters, you need to have all of the belt's width on the one journal. And if there is a speed-change fork the belt must pass through this without rubbing the sides. I notice you sent this query a couple of days ago. I'm sure it wasn't in my messages when I checked yesterday. But if I have your size listed and you buy, I can get it away today 4 sure. That's a promise. Thanks for the question.......room4more.
